Module 6:
Introduction Objectives:
Introduction: A multicultural project should mobilize your students' curiosity, concerns, empathy and idealism by creating an authentic experience in multicultural communication and awareness. The real nature of this work will motivate and excite everyone involved. You might choose to help your students make friends in other cultures with an Internet based collaboration. Perhaps a service learning project will be your choice. Or you can plan a unit of study that combines all of your best ideas into a series of powerful learning opportunities. Creating a Successful Multicultural Project All journeys begin with a first step. In our case, we took that first step at the midterm by choosing a project that promotes a spirit of multicultural awareness, empathy and diversity, while answering your curriculum demands. By reaching out to willing partners or groups you can join forces and create an opportunity for understanding. The course project is designed to help you create a meaningful unit of instruction that activates your beliefs and hopes about teaching with a multicultural perspective. With energy, good spirit, planning, and a lot of effort you can facilitate an authentic learning experience that your students will treasure. Going to school will be an adventure that creates the feelings of wonder, joy, and purpose that prompted you to be a teacher in the first place. *Always feel free to e-mail me at mc@wiredinstructor.net with questions or comments.
