Ground Rules - Fall 2002

Be open to the ideas that are presented in the class.

Respect different opinions and reactions.

Be willing to share insights and observations.

Be understanding if topics veer into areas which create discomfort and allow for times of non-sharing.

Have fun.

Try to comment to as many postings as possible.

Feel free to disagree but do it nicely.

If someone gets behind on their assignments try to comment on their postings as well as the earlier postings.

A friendly greeting always is nice.

Agree to disagree with some finesse and thought of the person's feelings.

Put yourself in the other person's "shoes".

Even though it is hard, try to leave what happened during the day behind.

Keep an open mind.

Be happy!

Accept diversity.

Stay on task.

Have a different opinion with grace

Above all, enjoy yourself and have fun!

Reply with reasons - if you think someone has a good idea, tell us why!

Ask questions - that's how we learn right?

Be constructive - I think this class will be a learning experience for all of us

Put in what you want to get out of the class.

I think we just need to make sure we agree to ask permission of each other before forwarding messages that might be sensitive or personal.

The only thing that I would like to add is to just remember that there is no right or wrong opinion or idea. Some see the glass as half full, others see it as half empty, and others see it as a cup.

I think we need to consider that we can't "see" and "hear" each other, so I think that we need to read each response, for what it is, and try not to assign any emotion or feeling to it. It's easy to misread things sometimes and take them the wrong way.

Speak from your own experience instead of generalizing ("I" instead of "they," "we," and "you").* Thank you once again Paul Gorski.
